You have the simple answer and then the longer answer. The simple answer is that the human needs to do the strategy and the AI can do the execution. And that is not unique to Google Ads at all. So tactically, what that means in Google Ads is control today means controlling the information you give to AI. And so the number one thing in Google Ads and all ads is conversion tracking. leveraging your customer data, importing your real customer data into Google Ads so that those bidding algorithms and targeting algorithms have your own personal business context to learn on. And then the creative…

monitor. So, I have this framework again it in the show notes, but I call it my four C's. There's like four levels of scripts. Checks, chart, change, and cognition. So, just running through those very quickly. Checks are very similar to rules. We can just quickly check, you know, did impressions fall off a cliff last night? Is CPA going crazy and was spending too much? In which case, maybe do something or alert me. At a very minimum, just send me an email, pop a message in Slack, do something to alert me, add a label to that campaign to tell a human to go look at it. And next, we had chart…

Here's my thesis up front. There's no longer an old way or a new way of managing ads effectively. The only way to win in AI is with AI, according to Google. However, however, the fundamentals of Google Ads remain remarkably unchanged. I actually sell merch on my website, Team Control vs. Team Automation t-shirts, and I'm sorry to say that I'm going to have to update my merch because it's no longer about control vs. automation. It's about control with automation. These are not opposing teams or opposing sides. They now go hand in hand to drive scale and success in Google Ads. We're going to…

So it all starts with data. To drive performance and measurement, you need a strong foundation of data. So first, establish robust site-wide tagging with the Google Tag. This helps you make the most of your first-party data Next, set up enhanced conversions. This allows us to have a more comprehensive view of what is happening to improve the accuracy of your conversion modeling. And better conversion modeling means better bidding, smarter bidding. For conversions, now assign values such as revenue or profit. And once Google AI knows what a high-value conversion looks like, it can optimize for…

Like there's in Google Ads we have bidding, targeting, and creative. And bidding is somewhere where in my opinion, in my like automation has won. Targeting is somewhere where we're kind of 50/50. Creative is the place where it's still human. Uh will AI take over all three of these at some point? I don't know. But for now, that's how I kind of value bidding automated targeting, some automated, some manual, creative, still manual. At least for now.
